Kwaku Gyimah, 60, a farmer from Dunkura near Lake Bosomtwe in the Ashanti Region, has appeared before a Magistrate's court on a provisional charge of murder.

The accused was alleged to have shot Opanin Kwabena Atta, a farmer and native of Montuo, also near the Lake, on his farm on August 24, this year.

When he appeared before the court, Gyimah's plea was not taken and was remanded into prison custody to reappear on September 9.

The Bekwai District Police Commander, Felix Cosmo, told the Ghanaian Times that the accused allegedly went on a hunting expedition on the day of the incident.

He said at about 3:00.p.m. the accused claimed he saw an object that looked like a monkey and shot at it.

Gyimah said, “but when I went closer I realised it was a human being,” the District Commander added.

A cross section of the inhabitants the Ghanaian Times spoke claimed they suspect foul play and appealed to the police to get to the bottom of the matter.
