THE HIDAYA Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in the United States of America (USA), has donated an assortment of items to Muslims in Ghana.

The food items distributed to Muslims in the Brong Ahafo, Northern, Central, Greater Accra and Eastern regions included rice, cooking oil and sugar.

The beneficiary villages were Nkum, Odoben and Kwaku Buah among others.

Presenting the items at Nkum in the Eastern Region, Husseini Abdullah, a representative of Hidaya Foundation, indicated that it was the NGO's way of supporting Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan.

He said the donation would be an annual affair so that 'we can also contribute something towards the welfare of less-privileged Muslims in Ghana.

'It is the doctrine of Islam that those who are blessed support the less-privileged; but today, most of our Muslim brothers and sisters do not observe this doctrine.

It is sad that these days, people are content with catering for the welfare of only their immediate families,' Mr Abdullah lamented.

The recipients were full of joy, thanking the NGO for the kind gesture.

The distribution of the items was supervised by the Bureau of Social Services (BSS).
