BNI Should Arrest Doctors At Cardio Center - Kofi Wayo
31.08.2011 LISTEN

Founder and Leader of the United Renaissance Party (URP) “Chuck” Kofi Wayo, has implored the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) to arrest and charge doctors at the National Cardiothoracic Centre (NCTC) at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for first degree manslaughter if any loss of life occurred during their strike action yesterday.

Mr Wayo wants the doctors at the Cardio Centre who laid down their tools on Monday to demand the re-instatement of their mentor and dismissed Honorary Director, Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, to face the full rigors of the law.

“You see our institutions don't work. If these doctors allow somebody to die because of this hierarchy stuff, the BNI should go and arrest every one of them and charge them for first degree manslaughter or murder... They got to understand this is a society and we aren't playing with human life, do you understand, ...I know they are not well paid so it's hard for me to fight them or anything like that but you are hired to save human life and you better not let nobody die because you're going to pay for it dearly. It's as simple as that,” he said.

Commenting on the dismissal of the renowned surgeon in an interview with Alhassan Suhini on Radio Gold's newspaper review, he opined that the controversy surrounding the revocation of an honorary appointment handed the former Director of the NCTC was needless, since he believed Prof Frimpong-Boateng was not indispensable.

Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng was summarily relieved of his post on Thursday, August 25th, by the Minister of Health, Joseph Yieleh Chireh. The letter directed Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng to consider his appointment duly terminated with immediate effect.

However, medical staff at the Cardio Centre including specialists and other health workers suspended their services in protest against the arbitrary dismissal of the renowned heart surgeon by the government.

But, clearly riled at the shored up of support for Prof Frimpong Boateng, the maverick politician posited that if Jesus Christ was dispensable, then “it is only primitive people who believe that” nobody is indispensable.

“…Why is he behaving like he is indispensable, even Jesus Christ who the whole world depends on was not indispensable, he died. Where did we get the idea that we are indispensable? Supposed Prof. Boateng dies today then what? Are you telling me there is no other guy in the Goddamn world who is gonna replace this guy? I am shocked that these doctors whom we are supposed to respect dared to let human beings die so that they can have their elitist ideas, some corrupted elitist ideas…Prof. Frimpong-Boateng should know...that you don't work in a government organization and then you go and run for presidency. If he was a moral ethical person, he would have resigned…so firing him is the normal thing to do. Prof. Boateng is not indispensable. It is only primitive people who believe that somebody because of his degrees or something is not dispensable. If Jesus Christ died; what about you a common human being? So if Prof. Frimpong-Boateng dies today are these people going to protest against God?” he said.

He urged President Mills to stand his grounds and ensure that the constitution is obeyed to the letter.

“Government needs to show some muscle here. You can't create life so you don't have to play with it and that is what the doctors should understand. They should go back to work; the government should get touchy and let them know that this is the Republic of Ghana and we don't play here,” Kofi Wayo fumed.
