New Juaben Municipality puts in plans against cholera outbreak

Koforidua, June 29, GNA - The New Juaben Municipal Health Directorate is taking measures to contain the outbreak of cholera in the area.

This is because the filthy conditions that causes the outbreak still persists as people continued to put faeces in polythene bags and dump refuse in gutters.

This was made known by Mrs Fanny Anos, Municipal Health Promotion Officer, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Koforidua on Wednesday.

Mrs Anos therefore urged residents of the Municipality to wash their fruits and vegetables with salty water before eating and to clean their hands with soap under running water after visiting the toilet.

She appealed to the people to dispose off their toilets and garbage at the appropriate places.

She said health workers are educating people in the Municipality at the health centres and at public functions on how to maintain a clean environment.

Mrs Anos said the Municipal Health Directorate would collaborate with the Municipal Assembly to intensify the education of school children in the area on how to keep a clean environment.

She said efforts would also be made to rope in personnel of the Information Services Department to use their public announcement vans on health education.

The Municipality recorded 321 cholera cases early this year with two deaths.
