TelecomEye Company Limited has launched a new website to provide information on the telecommunication industry in Ghana in Accra.

The website, www.telecomeye.com is to provide an insight into the industry and assist the general public to easily access information on their networks.

Stephen Boadu-Appiah Jnr, President of TelecomEye noted that the main purpose of the website is to educate the media and the general public on the usefulness of comparing mobile telecom operators when the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) commences.

According to him, the website would help the public to decide, and confirm the network they want as well as know activities in the telecommunication industry.

Ernest Attuquaye-Armah, Deputy Minister of Communications, in a speech read on his behalf, noted that since the telecommunications industry has been swept up by rapid deregulation and innovation, it behooves on government to collaborate with other stakeholders to educate the public about the industry.

'The Ministry of Communications is responsible for building a people-centered inclusive and development-oriented information knowledge society where everyone could create access, utilize and share information,' he stated.

According to Mr. Attuquaye-Armah, in the evolving environment, governments are challenged to move from being providers of communications services to developers of forward-looking policies.

'It is therefore important for government to encourage competitive regulatory environment to enhance investment in the sector so as to promote rapid social and economic development.'

Yaw Boamah Baafi, MNP project manager, National Communications Authority (NCA), on his part, said customers would only have to visit the shop of a service provider in order to port their numbers, and it would be done for them through centralized systems.

Mr. Baafi noted that the objective of the MNP is to promote consumer choice, enhance completion and improve quality of service and commended the managers of TelecomEye for the initiative.
