Takoradi, June 14, GNA — More than 1000 people have been rendered homeless following heavy rains that hit the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis at the weekend.

Some of the properties destroyed included room furniture, fridges, television sets, carpets and other household valuables.

The Western Regional Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Japheth Baidoo made this known to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Takoradi on Monday.

“The rushing current of the floods broke people's fence and walls thus letting water flow into their living rooms,” he said.

Mr Baidoo indicated that NADMO had carried an assessment on the property destroyed while the assembly members and unit committee members of the affected electoral areas have been tasked to take record of the affected persons.

The Regional Co-ordinator said relief items would be made available to the victims when the total number of people affected is known.

Some of the areas affected by the floods included Nkotompo, Adiembra, Fijai, Bakagyir and communities along the Gyandu Park.

The rest are Banyease, Namibia, Anaji, Asaman, Akoase and Kweikuma.
