A two-day orientation workshop has been held for members of the Ga East Municipal Assembly, with a call on them to live above reproach, and contribute effectively for the development of Municipality.

John Kwao Sackey, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), opening the workshop, reminded the members of the need for them to adhere to the standing orders of the Assembly to ensure harmony, which would culminate in achieving their development objectives.

He also called for collaboration among the members and active participation in the development agenda of the Assembly, and urged them to continually help in addressing the problems in their respective electoral areas.

The workshop was aimed at introducing the members to contemporary issues in local governance, resource mobilisation, participation and accountability.

It was part of efforts to enhance the knowledge of the members, by providing them with the requisite skills and knowledge to enable them to operate effectively.

The Assembly, whose membership has increased from 18 to 31, due to the re-demarcation of the electoral areas, believes there was a need to equip the members, especially, the new ones with the requisite knowledge to enable them to fully participate and contribute their quota to the functions of the Assembly.

'There is the need to shape the experiences to suit local government practice for the benefit of the Assembly,' Mr. Sackey said.

He asked them to take advantage of the workshop and to bring their experiences to bear on the Assembly.

As part of the workshop, which had the theme, 'Equitable and sustainable development priority,' Mr. Isaka Dramani, Deputy Director of the Regional Coordinating Council, took the members through the practice and values of decentralised governance.

He urged them to exercise due diligence and discipline in addressing the concerns of the electorate, as well as collaborate with the various area councils.
