The Ivorian President, Mr Alassane Ouattara, says he has confidence that President John Evans Atta Mills will provide the necessary leadership for Ghana to support the reconstruction in Cote d’Ivoire.
He pledged to collaborate with President Mills to facilitate the repatriation of Ivorian refugees in Ghana to support that country’s development efforts.
President Ouattara made the remark when he held bilateral talks with President Mills on the fringes of the investiture of the Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, in Abuja.
President Mills was accompanied by the Foreign Affairs and Information ministers, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni and Mr John Tia Akologu, respectively, to witness the colourful ceremony in the Nigerian capital.
President Jonathan won the general election, seen as the fairest in Nigeria in nearly two decades.
Briefing journalists at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, after President Mills had arrived from Abuja, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Koku Anyidoho, said President Ouattara reiterated the significant role President Mills played in the peace process in Cote d’Ivoire.
He said, the speedy manner in which the Ivorian President appointed his envoy to Ghana was received by President Mills as a sign of the good neighbourliness between the two countries.
President Ouattara, prior to his investiture, had delegated a team, led by the Prime Minister of Cote d’Ivoire, Soro, to President Mills to thank him for his diplomatic manoeuvres which had contributed to the return of peace to that country.
