Korean Chamber Ready For Partnerships

The Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has pledged its commitment to partner its Ghanaian counterparts to do business to improve their fortunes.

According to the KCCI, there were lots of opportunities in Ghana which the chamber would want to tap into and noted it would expose its Ghanaians counterparts to entrepreneurial skills while providing additional funding to make their businesses thrive.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the KCCI, Mr Lee Dong-geun, made the pledge when a high-powered Ghanaian investment delegation led by the Chief Executive of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Mr George Aboagye met with the KCCI in Seoul, South Korea to discuss business relations.

Other members of the delegation were members of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce (GNCCI) led by Mr Seth Adjei-Baah, President of the chamber among other Ghanaian businessmen.

The executive vice chairman of KCCI noted that while the members would be encouraged to make it in Ghana, it would serve their interest and that of their counterparts in Ghana if they were better enticed through tax incentives and holidays among others.

The KCC has a membership of more than 130,000 across the country and involves all sectors including financial institutions, small to large industries.

South Korea has a market economy which ranks 14th in the world by nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 12th by purchasing power parity (PPP), identifying it as one of the G-20 major economies.

It is a high-income developed country and is a member of Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). South Korea is one of the Asian Tigers and had one of the world's fastest growing economies from the early 1960s to the late 1990s.

With the South Korean President expected to visit Ghana later in the year, Mr Dong-geun said there was the need for the two chambers to capitalise on the meeting to sign formal agreements which would be backed at the governmental levels.

He was of the view that there was a lot more for the two chambers to gain should their governments lend support for both to do business.

Mr Dong-geun, recognised the enormous potentials Ghana held and promised that the KCCI will sell the idea to its members.

Mr Adjei Baah had earlier told the KCCI President that the opportunities in Ghana provided a platform for Koreans to make more money while Ghana also capitalised on the Korean expertise to better its economy which is presently on track to recovery.

He said the GNCCI was poised to partner the KCCI for their mutual benefit and expressed the hope that follow-ups after the meeting would formalise relations.

“Our chamber is mainly made up of small businesses and we believe that by partnering your members, ours would be exposed to many other ways of doing business and expanding to march your level”, Mr Adjei Baah said.

The GIPC Chief Executive, Mr Aboagye said with Ghana emerging as an economic giant, there was the need for honest and trustworthy businesses from areas such as Korea to partner the country to lead it through the journey.
