How Does WAEC Grade Our Scores?

Dear Auntie Betty,
I am 15 years and have just finished writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). I am very anxious and find it very difficult waiting for the results. I always try to keep myself busy so that I do not think about the exam.

I am, however, also worried about the grading system. In my school, 80 per cent is grade one, but people say it differs from what the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) uses.

I have surfed the Internet but can’t get any information about it.

I desperately need WAEC’s marks for each grade.

Congratulations for completing school, you first of all need to have a lot of rest after a hectic time.

After you are well-rested you can ask your parents to enrol you in a computer school or any hobby that you want to improve upon so you can acquire some skill.

You should not be worried about the grading of your scores since it is something you can’t change.

Our sources indicate that candidates are usually graded according to the highest mark obtained in a particular subject. It all depends on the highest score in each subject.

The grading will differ for every subject. If you want further clarification you can contact the WAEC office in your region or the district education office.
