Rainstorm wreaks havoc at Ofoase

Ofoase (Ash), May 4, GNA - A downpour accompanied by rainstorm on Monday, caused extensive damage to properties running into several thousands of Ghana cedis at Ofoase in the Asante Akim South District.

The storm, which lasted about an hour, affected 120 buildings and displaced more than 300 residents, according to the District Office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

The affected buildings included the Senior High School, District Assembly Primary School , Health Centre and the Police Station.

The Health Centre was worst hit as the roof of the labour ward was completely ripped off at a time some patients, including a nursing mother, who had just given birth, were on admission.

Power supply to the community was also disrupted following destruction of electric poles most of which had fallen on the ground.

Most of the affected victims were spotted counting their losses in the early hours of Tuesday when the District Chief Executive, Mr De graft Fokuo, led a team of NADMO officials to inspect the extent of damage caused to property.

Mr. Fokuo sympathized with the victims and asked them to take steps to rehabilitate themselves pending support from NADMO.

He appealed to individuals and organizations to assist the victims and pledged the assembly's support to them.
