Kumasi, March 29, GNA - The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Court has remanded a mechanic into police custody to assist in investigation for allegedly possessing 156 wrappers of substances believed to be Cannabis.

The plea of Shaibu Mohammed, 20, was not taken and he will re-appear on April 29, 2011.

Meanwhile, the substance has been sent to the Forensic Laboratory, Accra for examination.

The Prosecuting Officer, Detective Inspector Martin Assenso told the Court presided over by Mr Justice William Boampong that on March 24, personnel of the Drug Enforcement Unit jointly with the Narcotic Control Board went on an operation to clamp down drug users and peddlers.

He said the team went to Anloga-Sobolo in Kumasi at about 1700 hours and met Mohammed sitting on a yellow plastic bag on a bench close to the Anloga gutter.

The prosecutor said the team approached him and a search revealed the wrappers and a further search revealed another 95 wrappers of the leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in a black polyethylene bag.
