NPP calls for Kobby Acheampong's head

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on President Atta Mills to dismiss Mr. Kobby Acheampong, Deputy Minister of Interior, because of his 'insulting behavior, rudeness and arrogance,' which is a disgrace to governance in the country.

'The NPP believes our political discourse and governance should be spared the indecency that the likes of Mr. Acheampong represent, hence the call on President Mills to foster decency in our political discourse, by relieving Mr. Acheampong of his post as Deputy Minister.'

The call was contained in a press statement signed by the Director of Communications of the party, Nana Akomea, and made available to the press in Accra yesterday.

According to the NPP, Mr. Acheampong's unpalatable comments in recent times, if not checked, would throw the political discourse in the country into a free for all denigrations and insults.

Mr. Acheampong last week described Nana Akufo-Addo as an untidy person and a fruitcake.

The Deputy Minister of Interior had earlier in the year denigrated residents of Kumasi and the countryside by his infamous 'cocoase kurasenii' outburst, a statement the NPP said was most unfortunate.

'Mr. Acheampong's outburst and insults makes nonsense of President Mills' constant admonition against the politics of insults,' said Nana Akomea in the press statement.

The NPP said Mr. Acheampong's comments in the run-up to the 2008 cost his job as a lecturer at the African University College of Communications and, therefore, called on President Mills to expedite action on his removal from office.

I am surprised, NPP is the highest hypocritical party so far. They talk from both sides of the mouth. Nana Akuffo-Addo himself recently called the President Doctor "Dolittle"(a nice compliment, isn't it?), not to mention several others from their cronnies only to turn round and call for the sack of others. It is quite amazing!
