An International Affairs analyst, Dr Niyi Alabi has warned that should the international community remain silent on the Egyptian crisis, the problem might have a domino effect not just in the Arab region, but the rest of the world.
Dr Alabi, who was speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show said the main cause of the riots in the Arab region was due to endemic poverty.
He said despite giant strides taken to develop their infrastructure, many in the region, especially in Egypt were feeling the harsh bites of poverty and have taken it upon themselves to express their displeasure about the situation.
Dr Alabi stated that ousting Egypt's president, Hosni Mubarak, will not be as easy as some would have the world believe, because according to him, Mubarak is a more obstinate character than Tunisia's former leader, Ben Ali, who was forced out of power after similar protests in that country.
However, he was quick to point out that he expected the protests to continue after former International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Chief, Mohammed ElBaradei said there was no turning back from the protests.
Offering a solution, Dr Alabi said the most viable option would be for the Arab world to reform their soio-political environment.
“Things cannot continue to be done this way and there is the need for a reconstruction; social reconstruction, political reform and the likes of it on a very serious note.
“Otherwise, they are going to explode one day after the other and by the time the so-called international community is aware of the magnitude of the danger facing, not only them, but the whole world, it might be a bit too late to contain the situation,” he warned.
