7 Nabbed Over Abiriw Fracas
SEVEN people have been arrested in connection with the attack on a group of young men from Abiriw last Wednesday as a result of protracted land dispute between two neighbouring towns of Abiriw and Dawu in the Akuapim North District of the Eastern region.
The Akropong Divisional Crime Officer, ASP Tony Addipah who disclosed this to DAILY GUIDE over the weekend, said six people were picked from Dawu and one from Kuntuase, adding that they would be screened and processed and those found culpable would be charged and put before the law courts.
He however refused to name the suspects for security reasons.
According to him, the suspects, after screening, would be charged with conspiracy, murder and causing unlawful harm.
The divisional crime officer explained to DAILY GUIDE that thorough investigations are still on-going and any other person found to be connected with the attack would be arrested and interrogated.
He appealed to members of the two communities, who have any other information in connection with the Wednesday attack to contact the police bosses at Akropong.
He promised to keep the identity of such information volunteers very confidential.
The divisional commander, Chief Superintendent Ernest Owusu, on his part, said the police have been holding dialogues with the chiefs and elders of the two towns to restrain people from carrying out any further attacks.
'We have been talking the chiefs from both sides to talk to the youth of their towns because of the implications of any unguarded action,' he said, adding that any person or group of people who will take the law into their own hands will not be spared.
'We are still on the ground and have intensified our patrols in both towns to avoid any possible clashes between the people of the two towns,' he pointed out.
He expressed the hope the people will cooperate with the police to bring to book all those behind the attack and not vilify the police.
Meanwhile, there was calm atmosphere in both towns when DAILY GUIDE visited the towns last Friday.
At Abiriw and Dawu, residents were going about their normal businesses with the police also on very 'red' alert to nib in the bud any violence.
