NSS ready to deploy personnel for national assignments
The Executive Director of the National Service Scheme says the scheme is ready to deploy service persons to help execute other national assignments.
His comments follow suggestions at the ongoing New Year School that teachers be relieved of the extra burden of assignments which take them away from the classroom.
Vincent Kuagbenu says the scheme offered to assist the just ended Housing and Population Census, but there was some communication breach.
He hoped officials will consider engaging service persons for the 2012 elections so teachers can concentrate on their core business.
“We made attempts to get the organizers of the census to get us on board but there was a missing link. We hope that they have learnt from their lessons," he said.
He agreed with a comment by one of the speakers at the New Year School that the continued diversion of teachers from the class room is attributable to the fallen standards in education and hoped that when service personnel are engaged for some of these national duties the teachers will be allowed to concentrate on their classroom issues.
