January 11, 2011 Kasoa (C/R), Jan. 11, GNA - The District Director of Health Services in Awutu-Senya District, Mrs Patricia Antwi, has appealed to the Assembly to provide more public places of convenience and portable water to deprived communities in the area.

She said this was necessary as the outbreak of cholera last year at Bawjiase and its surrounding villages killed three people.

Mrs Antwi made the appeal at the end of year get-together for the staff of the Health Services at Kasoa over the weekend.

She said the cause of the outbreak was due to the pollution of the stream with human waste. The same stream served as a source of drinking water to the people.

Mrs Antwi said if more public places of convenience and good drinking water were provided, the people would stop depending on the stream.

Mrs Antwi said family planning coverage increased from 24.7 percent in 2009 to 31.5 percent in 2010.

She said additional facilities are needed at Kasoa Health Center and appealed to the Ministry of Health, stakeholders in the provision health services and the Assembly, to assist the directorate with more facilities to help in their work.
