January 06, 2011 Sekondi, Jan. 6, GNA - The Sekondi-Takoradi Operations Manager of the Waste Management Department, Mr Gorkeh Miah, has announced plans by the Metropolitan Assembly to take inventory of toilet facilities at households in the twin-city.

He said this would enable the Assembly to partner homeowners who did not have toilet facilities in their homes to build the facility with the support of the Assembly.

Mr Miah said that some landlords and ladies had converted their toilet facilities into rooms and stalls and rented them out to tenants.

"How do you expect your tenants to ease themselves when you have converted toilet facilities into rooms for rent? This has created the situation whereby people defecate in black polythene bags and on the beaches", he said.

He said it was illegal to build a house without providing toilet facilities in them. He added that every three rooms must at least have one toilet facility for the occupants.

Mr Miah said the Assembly would strictly implement the waste management plan in the Metropolis this year and ensure a safe environment.
