Accra, Dec. 16, GNA - Pupils in Sissala East District of the Upper West Region, have expressed appreciation to the commitment of Mrs Suleman Alijata, Sissala East District Chief Executive for improving teaching and learning in the district.

They said she was instrumental in a 16-year-old girl Rasheda Ibrahim Biipuah obtaining a scholarship to continue her education at Tumu Kanton Senior High School, through the assistance of Mr Kwame Sakyi, an Accra-based businessman, who provided GH¢430.

In addition, teachers quarters provided with solar energy have been built in four remote areas in the district to facilitate education.

These are at Nabulo, Jijen, Yigantu and Dolibizon.

The commendation was contained in a statement issued by Mr DJ Adams Mohammed, Co-Ordinator of Voice of the Innocent Children, a Wa-based NGO copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra when the pupils paid a courtesy call on Mrs Alijata at Tumu.

It said Mrs Alijata pledged her commitment to promote education in the district and ensure talented pupils were offered the needed assistance through sponsorship to realise their God-given talents and achievements in life.

She therefore advised the children to learn hard to unearth their hidden talents and become role models for others and endeavour to fight poverty in the district and country.

The children on their part said, "We are extremely happy about the efforts by Mrs Alijata towards girls' education in the district and commend her sincerely."
