Driver's Mate Impregnates Girl, 14

After sexually abusing a 14-year-old pupil; resulting in a pregnancy, at Kasoa, a driver’s mate, Kweku Amoako, neglected his responsibility of taking care of the mum and child.

Amoako, 27, also neglected to name the baby who is said to be three weeks old.

As a result, Amoako is facing three counts of defilement, failing to maintain child and failing to name the three-week-old child before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court.

He pleaded not guilty, prompting the Presiding Judge, Mr Nat K. E. Osam, to remand him in prison custody until November 30.

Chief Inspector Ivy Agadia told the court that while Amoako is the stepson to the grandfather of the victim, both Amoako and the victim lived together with the old man, who is blind, in the same house at Kaemebre, a suburb of Kasoa.

Some time in 2009, the victim’s grandfather fell ill and was sent to a prayer camp by Amoako’s mother, leaving Amoako and the victim in the house.

Amoako took advantage of the situation and forcibly slept with the victim each time she went to sleep.

Ms Agadia said the victim made several attempts to divulge her ordeal to a neighbour, but she could not do so on account of Amoako’s threats to kill her if she dared.

So the sexual abuses continued until the girl became pregnant.

But on seeing the result of those abuses, Amoako went into hiding. The girl later gave birth without getting anyone to take care of her and the baby.

A report was made at the Domestic Violence Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Kasoa Police who arrested Amoako from his hideout.
