Human trafficking workshop underway in Jomoro District

Half Assini (W/R), Nov. 24, GNA - A three-day training workshop on human trafficking and sensitisation for immigration officers and other law enforcement agencies in the Jomoro District, is underway at Half-Assini in the Western Region.

The theme for the workshop is: "Getting tough on human trafficking," is being sponsored by UNICEF.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mrs Judith Dzokoto, Assistant Director of Immigration Management said the workshop was a prelude to the establishment of anti-human trafficking desk at the Elubo border in the Region.

She said 36 participants mobilised from the Customs Division of Ghana Revenue Authority, Bureau of National Investigations, Ghana Police Service and Ghana Immigration Service are attending the workshop.

The participants are being exposed to surveillance, risk assessment, management and intelligence gathering.

Mr Richard Kumador, Executive Director of Quest Services Limited, a corporate entity, who facilitated the workshop, emphasised the importance of intelligence gathering to clamp down on organised crime such as human trafficking.

The workshop would be climaxed at Elubo Border with the opening of anti-human trafficking office in the town on Thursday, November 25.
