Don't disturb contractors undertaking MiDA Projects

Savelugu (N/R), Oct 28, GNA - The Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) has appealed to communities benefiting from its projects not to interfere with contractors working on the projects or put impediments in their way.

Major Albert Don-Chebe (Rtd), the Director of Community and Public Outreach of MiDA, said this at a district advisory committee meeting of MiDA in the Savelugu/Nanton District on Wednesday.

The purpose of the district assembly advisory committee meetings is to update members on the progress of works being executed under the programme and to get feed back to enable MiDA address any lapses in the implementation processes.

He said it had come to the notice of MiDA that some chiefs and communities, instead of cooperating and assisting the contractors to execute the projects in their areas, were rather harassing them.

Major Don-Chebe explained that projects under MiDA had a duration period from 2007 to 2012 and therefore if some chiefs and communities continue to put impediments in the way of the contractors they stood to loose since after the duration period no additional time would be given for the completion of any project.

He said 14 months were left for the completion of any projects under MiDA and therefore if the money was not utilized the rest would be returned to the coffers of the US government.

Mr Alabira Ibrahim, Monitoring and Evaluation Manager of MiDA, said over 30 three-unit classroom blocks had been built in the Savelugu/Nanton District and 16 boreholes sunk.

Prince Askia Mohammed, the Savelugu/Nanton District Chief Executive, commended the US government for making Ghana a beneficiary of the Millennium Challenge Account and said this had provided the opportunity to the people to transform their lives through modern agriculture.
