The Founder and General Over-seer of Jesus Blood Prophetic Ministry International, Kofi Yirenkyi, a.k.a Jesus One Touch, yesterday opened his defense before an Accra Circuit Court, where he is standing trial for allegedly defiling his daughter.
The accused person told the court, presided over by Mrs. Georgina Mensah-Datsa that he never had sex or defiled his 10-year -old daughter, and denied ever threatening to beat the victim with a belt, if she reveals 'the secret'.
According to 'Jesus OneTouch', he had never been alone with the victim in his bedroom before, and was therefore marveled as to why the victim showed the police the place where the alleged incidence had been taking place.
The accused person had to come back to the circuit court to open his defense in the case, after the appeal filed against the circuit court's ruling, that called on him to open his defence, had been dismissed by an Accra High court.
The decision of the court, followed a medical reports from two hospitals attended by the victim, which indicated that the victim is not a virgin and that her hymen had been broken. The report further noted that the nature of the broken hymen was as a result of a small object, the size of a finger, which penetrated the victim's vagina.
It was then the view of the court that as both medical reports indicated that there was a degree of penetration, a criminal case of defilement had been established.
Kofi Yirenkyi further mentioned that never did he release any semen before his daughter, noting that it would be a disgrace on his part to expose his nudity to his own child.
The accused person asserted that he was told that the gateman, named Efo, currently at large, was the one who defiled the victim and that being the father to the victim, he decided to foot the medical bill, but the mother rejected the offer with the explanation that the victim was fine.
He pointed out that he had never expressed any dislike for the child, but fulfills his fatherly duties as expected of him.
According to 'Jesus OneTouch', on the alleged days; Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays that the victim claimed he had sex with her, tends to be his important days, when he leaves home at 4:00am to preach at Peace FM from 5:10am-5:40am, after which he leaves for church consultations. He then goes to preach at Hitz FM and leaves for home at 8:00am, with his wife and children coming home later in that order.
The Chief State Attorney, Ms. Helen Kwawukumi, indicated that she needs the exhibit of the case to continue with her interrogation. The case was, therefore, adjourned to November 11, 2010.
Kofi Yirenkyi is standing two counts of defilement and incest and he had pleaded not guilty to all the charges leveled against him. He is currently in police custody.
The facts of the case are that the victim, who was born out of wedlock, lived with complainant, Madam Bernice Owiredu Asmaa until 2005, when she left to live with the accused person at McCarthy Hills in Accra to attend school.
According to the prosecution, between 2008 and 2009, the accused started defiling the victim before every church service.
In November 2009, the accused granted the victim's mother the opportunity to talk to her because she was putting up a bad behavior, the prosecutor told the court.
According to the prosecutor, it was during the interaction that the victim revealed her ordeal to the complainant, who reported the case to the police, adding that the police gave her a form for medical check up. Nana Yirenkyi was later arrested and put before court.
