Ho Polytechnic to offer HND courses in oil and gas industry

Ho, Oct. 3, GNA - The Ho Polytechnic would start a Higher National Diploma (HND) course in some aspects of the oil and gas industry next year, with the collaboration of Teesside University, Middleborough, UK.

Dr Komla Agbeko Dzisi, Immediate Past Rector of the Polytechnic gave the hint in a chat with Journalists after a non-denominational church in his honour in Ho, on Sunday.

He said a special desk was working to bring the programme to fruition, as the polytechnic's contribution to the manpower buildup for the emerging petrol-chemical industry in Ghana.

Dr Dzisi said his four-year stay as Rector had seen the polytechnic venturing into degree and higher courses in various disciplines in the technological sphere.

He said staff development had been high during his tenure with nine Lecturers leaving for the UK this year alone, to do second degrees and other specialized courses, and that many more were undertaking courses locally.

Dr Victor Jakpasu Afun, the new Rector said his predecessors achievements would challenge him to send the Ho Polytechnic to "greater heights" and that a new era was just beginning.

As part of the ceremony a GHC 126,670.50 Yutong 35 seat capacity bus, purchased by the Polytechnic Student's Representative Council (SRC) was commissioned.

Mr Eric Komla Tsitsia, SRC President, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, the bus bought with contributions from students, would facilitate study visits of the various departments to relevant industries to boost the practical oriented training of the polytechnic.

He said the institution's Junior Common Room was being refurbished whiles the Internet Café was undergoing a complete refitting.
