Accra, Sept. 13, GNA - The Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs (MOWAC) on Monday commended Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, Minister of Employment and Social Welfare (MESW), for setting up a committee to investigate the alleged issues of neglect, abuse and corruption at the Osu Children's Home in Accra.
A statement issued in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency by Madam Hawawu Boya Gariba, Deputy Minister of Women's and Children's Affairs, said the nine-member committee chaired by Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere of MESW, had been charged among others, to review the full text of the video footage shot by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Other areas include examining the structure of the Osu children's Home, its modus operandi and its general operations.
It commended the Minister for his prompt response to the situation and entreated the committee to undertake a thorough investigation exercise to unearth the truth.
"It is expected that the outcome of the investigations will equip and properly inform all stakeholders in child care and protection, particularly government, to live up to their responsibility of providing proper care to vulnerable and deprived children," it added.
