SEP 10, 2010 LISTEN

It was all joy when quite sizable number of members from the Ghana Methodist Church converged at Downs View Park, Toronto to have fun by organizing a barbecue on labor holiday September 7, 2010.

Apart from getting busy partaking in various church activities such as arranging chairs, singing, beating drums, reading scriptures preaching the sermon, both leaders and the entire congregation decided to meet at the park and socialize together as one body in Christ.

Church office holders hanged their suits and dressed casually for the event. There was no one seen wearing choir robes with the hymn books clutch in their hands singing.

To some people who have been considering that apart from wearing the clerical, the reverend minister could not be seen in ordinary attire anytime and sit in the mist of people to play, eat, drink pop, and share story telling together had a change of mind after the event.

They were amazed to see the superintendent minister in charge of the church Very Reverend Jacob William French, smartly dressed with his “COW BOY” hut to march freely and happily socializing with members at the event.

He sat together with members playing draft, relaxing and reading newspapers as well as strolling around to admire some of the flowers and other creatures at the park.

But the moment of joy came when few members Madam Cecilia, Dr. Lartey, and Maami Hemaa saw Papa Osofo from a distance away enjoying his roasted corn run to take a memorable photograph with him amidst great laughter among others.

Osofo Maami whose sweet voice sends ripples on members anytime she sings at church service was spotted in her nice jeans serving food to the children and later relaxing to enjoy the moment.

The children and youth who came with their parents enjoyed playing football whiles their mothers got themselves busy frying plantain, yam as well as cooking all sort of Ghanaian dishes which were shared among all.

Cooked dishes were in abundance as well as members served themselves and later enjoyed the cool breeze of the weather which has threatened to rain with strong wind which made the trees to wave nice and beautifully.

This reporter could not contain his joy when he saw the tallest person in the church playing “ampe” with one of the ladies all to create laughter among members gathered.

Really the barbecue offered members who attended the event opportunity to meet and express love and unity by eating, drinking and playing which there was no doubt members were happy when the event was over and were returning to their various homes.

End.
