Two persons are reported dead in the West Mamprusi District of the Northern Region following the opening of the spillways of the Bagre Dam in neighbouring Burkina Faso.

Upper East Regional Minister, Mark Woyongo who visited the banks of the White Volta, confirms the deaths and says the two were carried away by the flood waters at a village called Kpesinkpe.

He says the impact of the spilling of the dam is getting very serious and dangerous for lives and property.

According to the Minister, the water has submerged most communities and the level is increasing by the minute.

“It is that serious. We have large farms of water on both sides of the river and we have started seeing the effects downstream. It is becoming very serious and worrying.

"...In my region nobody, has lost his life so far. But in the Northern Region two people have lost their lives. They were carried by the flood water," he said.

He said there is no possibility of people retrieving anything with the water submerging almost all valuable items.
