Accra, Aug. 31, GNA - Mr Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma Central, has urged parents to give their children quality education and protect them from exploitation and abuse.

He said government had continually committed itself to promote the needs of children through legislation, policies and programmes to ensure effective protection and guarantee of their fundamental rights.

The MP said this at the weekend during the second graduation ceremony of the God's Time Day Care and Preparatory School at Abossey Okai in Accra.

Mr Chaie said government appreciated the efforts of private schools and child focused non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the country to protect children's rights and prevent their neglect, exploitation and abuse.

He said child protection issues were complex and required enhanced partnership and effective collaborations to improve the situation of the Ghanaian child.

He said the implementation of child focused policies such as the Early Childhood Care and Development Policy, Gender and Children's Policy and Street Children Policy were aimed at ensuring the holistic development of children.

Mr Chaie urged private schools in the country to create a favourable environment for effective participation of NGO's and other businesses to ensure the implementation of these laws and policies.

Mr Chaie later presented a set of computers and its accessories to the school as his contribution to quality education in the area.

Mrs Constance Kotey, Proprietor of the School, appealed to the parents and guardians to prevail upon their children to take up reading as a habit to enhance quality education.

She drew attention of the parents to the important role of education in the nation's development and urged them to send their children to school to help develop the area.

Mrs Kotey gave the assurance that the school would soon open an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) library for the children and appealed to other organisations to donate generously towards education.

She urged the parents to pay the school fees of their wards promptly to sustain the school so as to provide quality teaching and learning.
