Another Bleak Xmas: Prez. Kufuor Promises Again
20.12.2002 LISTEN

President Kufuor has admitted that the economic hardship confronting the nation may deprive Ghanaians of the usual merry making this Yuletide, but he expects the nation to celebrate Christmas confident about better prospects for the years ahead. President Kufuor made similar comments last year (Ghanaians Will Enjoy Christmas Next Year - JAK) but promised that this year’s Christmas will be celebrated under better economic conditions and prosperity for more Ghanaians. However, there seems to be a general lax in activity with most traders complaining about poor patronage. The President concedes that this year’s festivities will be low key. “I know the nation is in economic strain so perhaps the abundance of food and dinks and merry making may not quite be the order of the day but that joyous spirit that is normally expected of the season, I hope it will be all over the country for people to feel happy with whatever little that they have to celebrate the occasion with and to hope that there are better times ahead, we should not give up”. The President in the spirit of Christmas goodwill held an informal meeting with the leadership of Parliament. He told JOY FM that he is extending the goodwill to his predecessor, Jerry Rawlings and his family. I am sure we are sending him and his family a Christmas card, at least, the President added.
