Sixty-eight schools under trees to get classrooms

Sunyani, July 30, GNA - Mr. Eric Opoku, the Deputy Brong- Ahafo Regional Minister, on Friday said contract for the construction of six-unit classroom blocks for 68 primary schools "under trees" had been awarded and they would be completed within six months.

He was speaking at a National Youth Council's 2010 Brong-Ahafo Regional Youth Forum that brought youth organisations and representatives in the region.

It was under the theme: "Positioning the Youth of Brong-Ahafo for Active Participation in the Better Ghana Agenda".

Mr Opoku said it was the determination of the government to engage the youth in all sectors of the economy since it was deeply concerned about the negative consequences and social vices among the youth due to unemployment.

"The government plans to profitably engage a greater chunk of the youth in other areas to explain government policies so people can support its agenda to succeed", he said.

Mr Opoku said it was also the government's aim to provide the resources and environment needed for the development of the youth.

He urged the youth to exercise restraint while the government took steps to address the numerous challenges that confronted them.

Mr Opoku appealed to the forum to produce an action plan that would enable the Regional Co-ordinating Council to help actualize their dreams and aspirations.
