Kwabeng (E/R), July 30, GNA - The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Mohammed Ahmed Baba-Jamal, has presented the first batch of 3,300 school uniforms and 124,000 exercise books for distribution to children in basic schools in the Atiwa District.
He said to support the economic activity in the constituency, 2,000 of the uniforms would be sewn by local seamstresses and tailor.
Mr Baba-Jamal said the Atiwa District Assembly had granted scholarships to 35 students from the area to pursue courses at universities and polytechnics.
The Assembly has also undertaken several projects including school buildings, 15 new boreholes to 15 communities and rehabilitated 21 old boreholes.
Mr Baba-Jamal said the government had awarded contract for the rehabilitation of the Mensco-Kwabeng road and soon the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, would be breaking the ground for the project to start.
He called for the support of the traditional authorities in the area to the District Chief Executive and the Assembly to enable them to attract more development projects.
