...And Kadjebi DCE

Seth Frank Alifui

About 500 irate National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth yesterday besieged the offices of the Kadjebi District Assembly with intentions to remove the DCE, Seth Frank Alifui, from office.

The youth, who chanted war songs, nearly clashed with police officers who had rushed to the scene to ensure law and order.

Staff of the assembly had to run for cover as the youth were infuriated over the DCE's absence at the office.

The youth accused Mr Alifui and the constituency chairman of the NDC of incompetence, and have asked President Mills to dismiss him.

They threatened to take the law into their own hands as the police turned down their petition.

One of the angry youth told Citi News the DCE had allegedly embezzled huge sums of money meant for the assembly.

He said they would continue to demonstrate until the DCE is removed from office since he has failed to push President Mills' better Ghana agenda.

But the DCE has denied all the allegations.
He told Citi News the group is only out to get him for their own selfish interest.

“I know within all the laws that I have not committed such things that they are accusing me of.  At a point, they did a lot of publications and the BNI was sent down to do their investigations. Invariably, you will notice that even the assembly has never taken five billion as common fund, so how can I as a single person scoop that money out of office.

They are talking about ¢1.5 billion that was paid for the assembly. This is not money that is meant for market women. They are meant for development and the use of the assembly. There is nothing so they can come out and do further investigations and if I am liable, I will leave the office and face any punishment,” he said.

The DCE threatened to take legal action against the leadership of the youth group who are constantly on his neck with false allegations.

“I am thinking about taking legal action because they have mentioned their names now. The guy who is spearheading the team even came for a job and he lost the tender so he has vowed to take me out of office so I will take him on.

It is also important for me to let the whole world know that one of the signatories to this petition and who is even leading this team was one of the persons I sent out for an interview in Ho; apparently he went there with a fake certificate so the job was not given to him. And then there was one person who also went into cocoa smuggling. They arrested his beans and he wanted me to help him. So this is a complete ploy,” DCE Alifui said.
