CHAOS!

Thomas Kwakwa's office braced with sticks (insert) Mr Kwakwa

THOMAS Kwakwa's days as the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Ahafo Ano South in the Ashanti region might be coming to an end if the behaviour of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) foot-soldiers in the area is not checked.

Irate-looking NDC hooligans in the district, who certainly do not approve of Mr. Kwakwa's leadership class, on Friday morning caused a stir by taking the law into their hands and locked up the offices of the DCE.

The news came with a similar report that the DCE for Kadjebi in the Volta region, Seth Frank Alifui, was in the same soup, as NDC foot-soldiers in the district went on rampage to get Mr Aflui sacked.

According to unconfirmed reports, the NDC activists are calling for the head of the Kadjebi DCE.

The group, led by Rauf Abdul Rahman, the NDC constituency secretary, levelled accusations at Mr. Kwakwa.

Prominent among the accusations is that he has neglected the NDC party in the area and was also in bed with NPP executives.

The group also slammed the Ahafo Ano South DCE for refusing to hand over a Nissan vehicle which they claimed he had earlier on stated in the presence of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, during a recent arbitration meeting, that it belonged to the party.

Mr. Kwakwa, who was in Accra attending a DCEs' meeting when the incident occurred, denied the barrage of accusations.

But the irate group members, who firmly stood their ground, insisted they would not open the offices until Kwakwa was sacked fromoffice by President Atta Mills immediately.

Abdul Rahman added that they would only rescind their decision if the DCE would come out publicly and apologize to the party and also release the pick-up vehicle for party activities.

Wearing red attire and carrying flags, the group marched straight to the district assembly building at Mankranso and locked up the offices of the DCE.

They later staged a mammoth demonstration at the premises of the district assembly in the morning for close to two hours, singing war songs and threatening to deal ruthlessly with Kwakwa if he showed his face in the area again.

The weird behavior put fear into workers of the district assembly as none of them showed up at work around 9:00am.

The party's deputy propaganda secretary of the area, Abubakari Saddique, said the DCE was taking them for a ride and “it is time that he was removed from office.”

According to him, the party would only welcome a DCE who would have the party's interest at heart and not someone like Mr. Kwakwa who is not a true NDC man.

Abdul Rahman said what really infuriated him was the fact that Mr. Kwakwa once said President Mills had done nothing for the NDC, yet the party still gave him the chance to lead it via the Swedru declaration.

“He said these filthy words against the president when we asked about his refusal to hand over the car to us,” he noted, adding the DCE had proved beyond reasonable doubt that he was a non-NDC member.

Reacting to the allegations on radio, Mr. Kwakwa said he never said at any meeting that he bought the Nissan Pickup for the party.

“I bought the car to help my campaign activities for 2012 to avert the difficulties I went through during the 2006 polls when I was without a car,” he said.

“These infighting will cast a slur on the NDC as a party and will prevent floating voters from joining us for the 2012 polls.”

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports say both Abdul Rahman and Abubakari Saddique have been remanded by the police at Tepa and would be arraigned on Tuesday for leading an unlawful demonstration.
