Ghana's High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Mr. Kabral Blay-Amihere has urged Ghana's Contingent serving with the United Nations Assistance Mission is Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) to work hard to consolidate the peace that has been achieved over the years to bring lasting peace to Sierra Leone. He noted that peace in Ghana is meaningless unless there is total peace in the entire sub-region.

The High Commissioner made these remarks when he paid a three-day working visit to the Ghanaian contingent in the Kenema District of the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone in October.

The purpose of his visit was to familiarise himself with the operational activities of the Ghanaian Contingent within the District. He said the bond of friendship between Ghana and Sierra Leone dates back to the Nineteenth Century.

He mentioned that the visit of President JA Kufuor to Sierra Leone amply demonstrates Ghana's commitment to peace in Sierra Leone and urged the Ghanaian Peacekeepers to work assiduously to improve upon the cordial relationship.

Brig. Gen. GLA Ayi-Bonte the Ghana Contingent Commander, and sector 3 Commander announced that Ghanbatt will be redeployed at Lungi International Airport in line with UNAMSIL's Adjustment, Drawdown and Withdrawal programme.

He urged the soldiers to exhibit the highest professional discipline at their new location, which is the first point of call by all visitors to Sierra Leone as it is the only International Airport in the country.

Mr. Blay-Amihere was later conducted round some Ghanbatt Company locations. At Zimme where Ghanbatt 6 Bravo Company is deployed, the Ghana High Commissioner paid a short visit to the 14th Battalion Headquarters of the Sierra Leonean Army. He was received by Lt. AK Koromah, the Battalion's Adjutant on behalf of the Commanding Officer.

Earlier on his arrival at the Kenema Airfield, The High Commissioner was received by Brig Gen GLA Ayi-Bonte, and the Commanding Officers of Ghanmed Level II Hospital and Ghanbatt 6, Col. F Appeagyei and Lt. Col. JBE Guyiri respectfully. He inspected a guard of honour mounted on his behalf immediately after arrival.
