Kumasi, June 30, GNA - The Ghana Tourist Board (GTB) has closed down 11 hotels, restaurants and travel and tour operating facilities in the Ashanti Region for doing business without licenses.
These include King Polo Guest House, Nados Restaurant, Eagle Eye Travel and Tours , Jordan Guest House, Dolphins Travel and Tours and Cleopatra Guest House.
The rest are Holy Mary Catering Services, Fad Fly Travel and Tours , Veraderos Travel and Tours , Agart Dressler Guest House and Diana's Guest House.
Mr Ekow Sampson, the Regional Manager, said this was part of an exercise to enforce standards to ensure public safety.
The Board, he said, was determined to inject some level of sanity into the hospitality industry and would sustain the exercise.
A total of about 40 facilities that have failed to meet requirements set by the GTB would be closed, the Regional Manager added.
He called for more public support and understanding, saying they should not patronize unlicensed and sub-standard facilities.
Mr Mathew Osei Prempeh, Quality Assurance Officer of the Board, advised tourism facility operators to make sure they meet the GTB's standards relating to customer care, hygiene and security.
