Keta, June 27, GNA - Mr. Chris Ackumey, a legal practitioner, on Saturday called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to reverse its recent decision to enforce a ban the use of mobile phones in second cycle institutions.

He said that cellular phones had Internet and other facilities that could facilitate the learning of Information and Communication Technology among students in line with government's focus.

Mr. Akumey, was addressing the 57th Awards Day Celebration of the Keta Senior High Secondary and Technical School (KETASCHO), on the theme: "Our Alma Mater the Fulcrum of Our Future Development", at Keta.

He said that education is dynamic and must move with current developments

and that "The mobile phone has become an educational tool and the GES must rethink the policy of banning its use in second cycle school campuses".

Mr. Ackumey noted that with many schools stampeding for over-stretched government funds for their development needs, KETASCHO old students must contributed to the development of the school.

A new boy's dormitory block funded by the Parents-Teacher Association (PTA) of the School at Ghc 176,000 and a museum housing sports awards received by the school since 1957, were commissioned and deserving students and staff were honoured for their academic brilliance and other achievements.

Mr Kwame Senanu-Kwawu, Headmaster, appealed to the old students and the PTA to construct a 10-unit classroom block for the school in addition to the six-unit block being provided by government.

He said the school with over 2,000 students excelled academically and in extra-curricular activities.

Mr. Senanu-Kwawu said 386 students out of 501 presented for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination last year, qualified to enter tertiary institution with no failures.

Master Desmond Hotor, School Prefect, lauded the discipline in school students and pledged that the students would learn hard and pass their examinations to justify the huge investment being made by their parents and government in their education.
