¢3.3 billion Scandal - Govt To Retrieve Money

20.11.2002 LISTEN
By Dispatch

The NPP government has embarked on a process to retrieve ¢3.3 billion which the former government of former President was “scared” to deal with. It is one of the blatant cases of corruption that the Rawlings administration “feared” to touch, possibly because it will affect some highly placed people. The NDC government directed that Pentrexx Ghana Limited and its managing director, Atta Owusu Ansah should refund a total of ¢3.3 billion. But the money was never paid. The Attorney General’s department is therefore processing documents for the retrieval of the money. Following investigations into the award of contract for the Keta Sea Defence project, the NDC government in February 1998, directed Pentrexx to refund ¢1.52 billion being overpayment for demolition work on the Keta project and an amount of ¢1.7 billion being 15% down payment for an Electricity Company of Ghana facility and purchase of equipment made by the Ministry of Works and Housing on behalf of the company. But the money was not refunded
