AMA to construct 50 schools to end Shift System of Education

The Chief Executive of the AMA, Alfred Vanderpuye says in pursuance of the abolishment of the shift system in primary schools as promised by the NDC government, his outfit has set out to build 50 schools in Accra.  He disclosed this during the second sod cutting ceremony of an eighteen classroom block at Mamprobi.

According to him, the shift system worked effectively in the past because the number of students was less.  However the current increase in the number of students has made the shift system ineffective.

The shift system according to him does not only cut down the instruction hours for the pupils but also encourages absenteeism, truancy and a high level of attrition on the part of the pupils.  This situation has therefore compelled the Metro Education Directorate to drop the shift system.

Mr. Vanderpuye said the programme will cater for thirty five thousand pupils out of the seventy thousand pupils currently involved in the shift system.

The Mayor assured the pupils that the 18 unit classroom will be ready by August this year.

The MP for Ablekuma South, Fritz Baffour said apart from the project facilitating effective learning for the pupils it will also help bring employment for the youth in the area.
