The Ashanti Regional head of the National Health Insurance Scheme has been “cautioned” for having “close working relationship with his employee.”

This was revealed by the Deputy Corporate Affairs manager of the scheme Ametor Quarme in an interview with sit-in host of the Super Morning Show Evans Mensah on Friday.

Reports in the media have been rife over an alleged illicit relationship between Mr. Ponkoh and one of his employees - a national service personnel.

Worried by the incessant reports and its repercussion on the image of the scheme, the Deputy Corporate Affairs manager said Mr Ponkoh was invited to Accra for questioning.

According to him, the regional head categorically denied 'sleeping' with his employee but conceded he had a close working relationship with her "almost to the point of she being somebody of a personal assistant to him which was not what the lady was supposed to be doing in the office," he said.

“We considered that to be too cozy a relationship and that is why we cautioned him,” he added.

Ametor Quarme said the regional head of the scheme claimed to have been fascinated by the extremely intelligent and supportive nature of the employee.

The Headquarters is yet to receive a formal complaint from the lady, Ametor Quarme maintained.

He said further investigation is being conducted into the matter.

The employee has since been transferred to the Bantama office of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Ametor Quarme confirmed.
