For the second time running, Youth Drive International (YDI), an NGO based in Accra with a branch in Kumasi has been invited to participate in the United Nations Model Conference (UNAUSA MUN) in New York, USA from May 13th – 15th, 2010.

The 11th Annual UNA-USA Model United Nations (UNA-USA MUN) Conference is sponsored by the United Nations Association of the United States of America's Global Classrooms® program. This three-day conference will be held at United Nations Headquarters and the Grand Hyatt Hotel in mid-town Manhattan, and will feature both Opening and Closing Ceremonies in the General Assembly Hall of the UN.

The conference will have over 2200 students and 18 committees, covering diverse and pressing international issues such as post-conflict reconstruction and investment, evaluating “Responsibility to Protect”, energy for sustainable development, HIV and young people, and election monitoring and peaceful transitions of power. Replacing the traditional General Assembly Regional committee, this year they will offer a “Nuclear Non-Proliferation Review conference” committee. The UNA-USA MUN conference will provide an authentic simulation of the United Nations in a highly professional setting and the chance for delegates to debate and network with thousands of students from across the country and around the globe.

In Model UN, students step into the shoes of ambassadors from UN member states to debate current issues on the organization's agenda. Students make speeches, prepare draft resolutions, negotiate with allies and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate the conference rules of procedure - all in the interest of mobilizing "international cooperation" to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world.

A nine-member delegation, which is made up of six (6) students and three (3) Advisors, will be representing YDI at the conference in Slovakia. The delegates will be sitting on the 2nd General Assembly, the UNDP, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) committees accordingly.

The Head of Delegation; Mr. Kwame Amo Yeboah in an interview said YDI is very grateful to all the numerous sponsors and donors who contributed in diverse ways to make the said trip a success. Mr. Patrick Arthur, the CEO of the organization and a participant of last year's conference said it is the hope of the organization to organize an international Model United Nation's Conference for the youth of Ghana next year.
