A self-styled pastor before court for alleged fraud

Accra, April 16, GNA - Wallace Abeiku, a self-styled Pastor resident at Maamobi, who allegedly defrauded Mr. Martin Mensah, a US-based Hotel Manager of 5,000 dollars six years ago, was remanded in Police custody appeared before a circuit court in Accra on Friday.

Abeiku who acted under the pretext of securing an American Visa for the complainant, pleaded guilty to defrauding by false pretences, would re-appear at court on April 29.

Police Inspector Michael Jubiok said somewhere in 2004, the complainant contacted the accused for assistance to secure an American Visa for his brother, Anthony Kwabena Antwi.

He said that the accused demanded 5,000 dollars which was paid by the complainant and for about six year now the accused had failed to secure the visa.

The Prosecution said on March 2, this year, complainant returned to Ghana and made enquiries that led to the arrest of the accused at Darkuman.

He said the accused in his caution statement admitted the offence and pleaded to refund 3,000 dollars to the complainant.
