Dr. Richard Anane asks NDC government to opt for HIPC

Former Minister of Road Transport, Dr. Richard Anane, has asked the NDC administration to opt for the HIPC arrangement, if the government thinks the economic is in shambles and cannot be fixed.

He says if the NPP could mobilize resources to embark on developmental projects under the status of a Highly Indebted Poor Country (HIPC), the NDC can go similar direction.

Dr Anane, who is currently on trail with others for causing financial loss to the State, says there is no good reason for the government to be giving excuses of the past.

He was speaking at a forum organized by the Tertiary Students Confederacy of NPP (TESCON) at the KNUST. “We have told the nation that yes in spite of HIPC we were able to mobilize resources to do all the kind of infrastructural projects that we did. This government must show that it can lead the way… if you cannot lead, you quit. If you think the economy is bad, you should go HIPC or shut up and if you cannot do it quit and not disturb us”, Dr. Anane noted.

Other speakers at the forum included Minority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu, MP for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong, Isaac Asiamah of Atwima-Mponua and Balado Manu, MP for Ahafo-Ano South.

Mr. Kyei-Mensah Bonsu observed allegations of corruption leveled against the opposition NPP are only diversionary tactics by the ruling NDC 'to cover up its administrative incompetence'.

He noted that the NPP has no problem with probing past government officials, but said there cannot be any proof to establish the allegations of corruption.

Mr. Kyei-Mensah Bonsu said the NDC “has set the target of what is written in their constitution, in their manifesto that we are corrupt; their founder says we are corrupt, the Attorney-General says we are corrupt. So they must do something just to establish that we are corrupt but I tell you they cannot proof by any evidence that we are corrupt”.

Meanwhile, re-elected President of TESCON KNUST, Nelson Owusu-Ansah has cautioned leadership of the New Patriotic Party against acts and omissions that tend to divide the party's rank and file.

He says the youth group will not align with any faction or perceived faction within the party but rather focus on pursuing the agenda of returning the NPP to power in 2012, stating “the students will not be roped into the struggle for power, recognition and superiority within the party”.
