NPP sets July 3 for emergency congress


The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced 3rd July 2010 as the date to hold its national congress to elect a new flag bearer.

This came up during an emergency national executive council meeting of the party on Wednesday.

There had been speculations that the opposition party would opt for an early congress to enable it fortify its support base properly to be able to unseat the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2012 elections.

General Secretary of the NPP, Kojo Owusu Afriyie, told Joy News the date is the best to have been chosen by the party, dismissing suggestions that the opposition party is rushing to congress.
