The Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has described as illegitimate calls on deputy chief of staff Alex Segbefia to resign from his post.
Mr Segbefia has recently come under constant criticisms following the alleged corrupt practices of the sacked chairman of the Confiscated Assets Committee, Carl Wilson.
Some members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) including Alhaji Iddrisu Bature, have been very loud in the media calling for the deputy chief of staff's resignation. Bature claims Segbefia must take ultimate responsibility for the alleged fraudulent activities by Carl Wilson and must resign accordingly.
He insists Mr Segbefia's resignation would be in the interest of the party, particularly when it would have to convince Ghanaians to retain the NDC in power in the 2012 elections.
Some NDC youth think Mr Bature should apologize to Mr Segbefia because he [Segbefia] cannot be held accountable for the alleged misconduct of Carl Wilson whom.
Speaking on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana programme Tuesday, Mr Otchere-Darko noted that the idea of property owning democracy is not about party boys grabbing vehicles at extremely cheap prices but that one has to work hard to own whatever property.
He was worried that it took the presidency to issue a statement to effect the sacking of Carl Wilson, exclaiming “how petty we've reduced the presidency…”
Dr Omane Boamah, Deputy Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, a co-panelist on Tuesday's programme, empathized with Mr Wilson due to the sensitivity of the position he occupied.
However, he said if Carl Wilson “allowed himself to attract these headlines, obviously any government that wants it public image would act…because the perception counts a lot.”
He proposed that a permanent solution is identified to solve the problems that have confronted the Confiscated Assets Committee over the years.
