The Spokesperson to the Vice President, John Jinapor has described as unpardonable excuse by the Yendi Police Command that it cannot arrest disgruntled NDC youth who have taken the law into their hands.
Some NDC youth in Yendi last Saturday threatened to kill their Metropolitan Chief Executive following accusations that he is incompetent, lacks vision in championing the cause of the party and the government, and creating division in the NDC rank and file in the area.
The youth resorted to violence after they claimed government had failed to heed their persistent calls for the MCE to be sacked.
The Yendi District Police Command told Joy News on Tuesday that it cannot arrest any of the youth who threatened to take the law into their hands because the issue is too political than criminal.
However, Mr Jinapor, who was speaking on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana programme, Wednesday, charged the police to do their work without fear or favour.
He said they must ensure that Ghanaians, irrespective of their political affiliation, adhere to the laws of the land.
Mr Jinapor advised the NDC youth to stay away from leading members of the party who incite them to pressurize the government by engaging in lawlessness.
He assured them that the government is putting things in place to address their grievances, urging them to use appropriate channels in making their concerns known.
National Women's Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Otiko Afisah Djaba, a co-panelist on the programme, warned political parties to be wary of the kind of promises they make to people especially the youth.
“We should not promise what we cannot deliver,” she said.
She challenged the government to implement a comprehensive youth policy that would holistically cater for the needs of the youth, adding the NDC youth are responding to the sense of insecurity [about their future]in the country.
