Mr Kofi Opoku-Manu, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has said the government is making frantic efforts to resuscitate the economy.

He has therefore advised Ghanaians to rally behind the government for the successful implementation of its vision to achieve the "better Ghana" agenda.

At the climax of the special prayer and thanksgiving service held at the St. Peters Cathedral Basilica in Kumasi on Sunday, Mr Opoku-Manu said it was through unity that national development effort would be accelerated.

He reminded Ghanaians that whatever they did had an impact on the ability of the nation to achieve its overall objectives of quickening the pace of development.

"It is time the people refrained from issues that can divide the nation, bring disaffection and intolerance but rather capitalise on factors that can unite the people since that is stronger for the progress of every nation," Mr Opoku-Manu stressed.

He announced that the government had allocated 7,001,796 exercise books and 19,310 school uniforms to the region.

He called on the people to continue to honour their obligations to the state in terms of payment of taxes, saying it was through tax that the government could realise more revenues to undertake development projects in the communities.

Rev. Msgr. Raphael Owusu-Peprah earlier in his sermon noted that, prayers were important ingredients in every endeavour and stressed that without God nothing could be possible.

He said the Almighty God had blessed the country with diverse natural resources and it was important for the people to live in peace and unity, saying "together we can tap those resources to enhance the country's development effort."

He called on Ghanaians to change their mindset and refrain from acts that would jeopardise the Country's progress and wellbeing.

Special prayers were said for President JEA Mills, Ministers and members of Parliament chiefs, people in authority, and the entire nation.

Other personalities present at the ceremony were Mr Samuel Sarpong, Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Chief Executive, Mr Patrick Timbilla, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Major S.W .K. Parbey of the Fourth Battalion of Infantry and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress., Mr Yaw Owusu Bimpeh.
