Ho, Feb. 27, GNA - Some heads of Senior High Schools in the Volta Region on Saturday called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) and government to institutionalize regular refresher managerial courses for heads of SHSs to ensure good management practices at schools.
They said this had become necessary in view of the enormous managerial challenges heads of SHSs faced in their administrative work.
The heads made the call at a day's workshop on effective management skills and conflict management organized by the GES for them in Ho.
The heads contended that they faced a lot of challenges in managing the schools and needed regular top ups in managerial practices to enhance good school management system.
They said though they have been trying to cope with situations on their campuses, continued human and material resources, and institutional management challenges, often frustrated their administrative work, and they needed certain skills to respond well to those challenges.
Mr Godfred Osei-Mensah, Resource Person from Edmat Foundation urged heads of SHSs to develop core managerial competencies and skills, to be able to handle managerial challenges in their schools.
He advised them to make use of resources available at their schools to achieve maximum results.
Mr Osei-Mensah asked them to set attainable targets which were Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound (SMART).
Mr Isaac Kodobisah, Ho Municipal Chief Executive, advised the heads of SHSs to put in their best and be effective managers at their schools.
