Drivers complain over increment in road tolls

The recent increment in the tolls of bridges and roads nationwide, has raised concerns from drivers from Ashaiman who ply the Accra-Tema Motorway, over the increase of the motorway toll from Gp10 to GH¢1, complaining that this would have a serious negative effect on their daily sales.

According to them the increment was unexpected and drastic, and that it would have been better if it was done gradually, instead of an instant high increment.

According to Mr. Adjei Ofosu, a driver who plies the Ashaiman to Lapaz route, they also have no other choice than to increase the fare to help them ease pressure on their expenditure.

He said as they are able to run from Ashaiman to Lapaz about five times a day, they would have to spend about GH¢5 a day on tolls, coupled with the price of fuel. According to him, they had no control over the situation, and plead with the government to do something about it.

Meanwhile, some passengers do not agree with drivers increasing the fare, since they would also increase it when there is an increment in the price of fuel.

However, even though they are surprised about the increment, they hope the money derived from this increment would be used for a developmental project by the government, which will benefit all Ghanaians.
