February 06, 2010
Kumasi , Feb. 6, GNA - A three-member delegation from the French Agency for Development (AFD) on Friday toured the ultra-modern Sokoban Wood Village in Kumasi , to acquaint themselves with the operations of the wood workers.

Mr Bruno Deprince, Deputy Resident Manager of AFD, led the delegation that was accompanied by officials of the Department of Urban Roads.

The Wood Village was built at a cost of GH¢ 46,000,000 with the assistance of the Agency.

Its completion paved way for the re-location of the wood workers at Anloga for the construction of the Oforikrom-Asokwa by-pass project, to ease traffic congestion in the Kumasi Metropolis.

Madam Alice Addai-Yeboah, out-going Resettlement Officer, told the delegation that the re-location of the carpenters had been a huge success.

The wood workers are currently occupying a total land area of about 30 acres and operating from 62 purpose-built sheds

Madam Addai-Yeboah expressed the gratefulness of the Metropolitan Assembly to the French Government for the facility, which comes with a hospital, police post, football pitch and workshops.

Mr Deprince expressed satisfaction with the job done and urged the workers to take advantage of the facilities to improve their work.

He pledged the commitment of the Agency towards Ghana 's development goals.
