Community demand transfer of midwife for negative attitude

February 04, 2010
Nsuta (Ash), Feb. 4, GNA - A midwife at the Beposo Clinic in the Sekyere Central District has irked the chiefs and people of the area, who are now demanding her transfer for disrespect and poor human relations.

The Omanhene of the area, Nana Boamah Kwabi IV, has sent a formal protest letter to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to replace Miss Comfort Asare, the midwife.

The Chief said the people have run out of patience and could no longer accommodate the insulting attitude of the midwife.

Miss Asare is in-charge of the facility that serves a population of about 7,000.

The District Director of Health Service, Mr Yaw Opoku-Amankwaah, confirmed to the Ghana News Agency that he was aware of the protest against the midwife.

He said prior to the Health Directorate taking a decision on matter, Miss Asare herself had reported that she felt unsafe by the frequent insults and threats and therefore wanted to be transferred.

He added that as a result, the Directorate had asked her to proceed on leave.

Three other auxiliary nurses and two health assistants at the facility have also been directed to report for duty at the Nsuta Health Centre.

Mr Opoku-Amankwaah said the Beposo Clinic would remain temporarily closed until either a medical assistant or another midwife is posted there.
